As I'm sure you've noticed, we're no longer on Blogger. Thanks to Goggle (not a typo) screwing with things and not getting them right (par for the course with them) I can't access that blog anymore. It's still there, I just can't get into it. So I moved. No more Blogger or Goggle-gargle. Happy dance time!
So, let's get to it. Here is your LAW Wednesday.
Angela carefully entered the monitoring cubby where Samantha on duty.
“Sorry, we’re closed,” Samantha called, voice too calm. “I have to eat. Come back later.”
Angela closed and fastened the thin door as she waited for the woman to see who had come inside.
Samantha swiveled around to get mean. She had to go talk to-
“Oh, good!” Samantha grabbed a paper from the neat desk. “We have another problem.”
Angela took the satellite image that had obviously been printed.
“I’ve been studying that picture,” Sam told her, pointing to the deep red center. “I think Yellowstone blew again.”
Angela sank down in the empty chair and dropped the paper on the desk. “We need to talk.”
Sam frown, catching the tone. “You know.”
Angela sighed tiredly. “There’s little I don’t see coming, Sam.”
Sam tried to make the connections, but Angela wasn’t sure they had enough time left to let her and said, “I need you to help me make a choice.”
“What kind of choice?” Samantha asked warily. The last time she’d had this conversation with Angela, it had led to death and destruction.
“As it will this time,” Angela confirmed. “Once again, I need to know if the benefits outweigh the crime.”
“Is there another choice?”
“As usual, there’s always a choice.” Angela motioned to the dark monitors. “We can go out and fight.”
Samantha blanched. “Next?”
“We hide in here and try to survive what’s coming. People will die in either case.”
“Numbers, then,” Samantha muttered. “Which one saves the most of our herd?”
Angela nodded. “Exactly. Except…” Angela tried to hold back the tears. “It hurts too much this time. I can’t do it.”
Samantha assumed their fearless leader had come to her for strength. She shook her head. “There’s nothing I can say that will make it okay if you don’t tell the camp. Not letting them make their own choice is wrong if it’s life and death.”
“I know.” Angela waited, sure Samantha would catch on, but worried Jeremy or Neil would interrupt them before she could finish this awful business.
“Are you…talking to other people about this?”
“Yes, but only those directly affected.”
Sam’s already pale face went green. “The clock stopped.”
Angela’s tears came. They rolled over her cheeks in huge drops of remorse and grief. “I’m sorry.”
Samantha shuddered. “You’re here to handle my last wishes.”
Angela leaned forward to take Samantha’s chilly hand. “No, Sam. Not you.”
Sam’s hand went to her flipping stomach, but her mind knew better. “Is it Neil or Jeremy?”
“That has not been revealed.”
Have a great week, world!
I will be away until Aug 10th, except for releases and customer service. LAW Wednesdays will resume when I return. My FB, Pinterest, and groups will also be very light on posting during this time. The monthly email will still come when I have news to share. That’s the only time I send those. All releases and preorders are the same.
I use this time to catch up on my life, enjoy my children, sleep, and create without the pressure of everything else that goes with being independent. It doesn’t mean that I’m not working. I’m just not working online. Thank you for understanding how important this time is to me and to my loved ones. I hope you have a wonderful summer.
Stay frosty! Lol
